Pastor Shares His Experience With “Toronto Blessing”

Color me unsurprised.

Growing up in charismatic and Word of Faith circles every church that my family attended eventually grew towards the behavior in this testimony, which I believe we could put in the all valuable category of experience. I’m not saying “definitely this is what will happen,” but if I had to hazard a guess I would guess that those going to Lakeland to find what they already have in Christ to “bring back” to their churches will tend towards this five years down the road.

How do I know this? Experience.

Testimony of former Toronto Vineyard Pastor Paul Gowdy

Wow. As I mentioned before, I was raised in the Vineyard, my parents were pastors of a Vineyard, I experienced “the blessing”, was a worship leader of a few Vineyards for quite a while. I think Paul spoke truthfully and humbly. I remember a lot of the same experiences he spoke of, know the pastors he refers to and quotes and I think he’s spot on.

Many of these issues Paul brings up were fundamental to the Toronto split from the Vineyard and I know that was very trying for Wimber and many Vineyard pastors. My prayer would be we would learn from that time, more pastors would speak clear warnings and bring truth. But a lot of the same old junk is being rehashed and dressed up as “new blessing”.

Thanks for finding that post, that was gold. And I don’t mean gold dust on the face, I mean gold as in great.

Please see “A Call for Discernment” by going to http://www.justinpeters.org. Justin is an evangelist and in addition to expository preaching, also holds seminars on the “Word of Faith” movement. He has cerebral palsy and concurs with the apostle Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee.”

You can view his brief overview of the misleading Word of Faith movement given at Southwestern Theological Seminary here:
