Dilettante Philosophers and Theologians: The Video Analogy
I’m fairly certain this video is ‘fake’ but I couldn’t help but laugh and think how good of an analogy this is for so many bad amateur philosophers and theologians.
“Everything happens for a reason…”
“The law of attraction states…”
“If you seed into the ministry…”
“If you just believe in yourself…”
‘Principles’ that give a person the illusion of control or propose to understand how and why things are. But then life happens. Or maybe more appropriately: death, sickness, and chaos happens, and the illusion of control is wrenched away or the ‘understanding’ is found wanting. How could this happen? Why is God doing this to me? Why is the universe not giving me my every selfish whim and desire?
Pat answers are always shattered on the anvil of experience by the hammer of life. It might not be today, but it will be a tomorrow. Bad things will happen. People you know will die. Some horribly and unfairly. You will get sick, and you will die.
Until then, just keep banging your head against the board and enjoy the ride.

Q: “Why are you banging that plywood 4×8 against your head?”
A: “Because it feels so good when I stop!”
