Catholic priest busted in sex sting in St. Louis County

A Catholic priest was nabbed Wednesday night in an FBI sting aimed at men who wanted to rent young girls for sex, federal court documents filed Thursday show.

James Patrick Grady, 57, Pastor of St. Raphael The Archangel, showed up at a St. Louis County home Wednesday, offering to pay money to have sex with a 16-year-old girl, documents allege.

Grady had been exchanging e-mails with an undercover police officer or FBI agent Wednesday, inquiring about an online ad offering young females, according to an affidavit filed in court by FBI Special Agent Cynthia Dockery.

Grady asked for details and was provided a digitally-altered picture of a 16-year-old girl and a price of $80 for 30 minutes and $160 for a full hour, Dockery wrote. Grady asked for a massage from the girl, and was refused. He then asked for kissing and oral sex, Dockery wrote.

Grady then allegedly called the undercover officer and got directions to a secret location somewhere in the St. Louis area. He showed up with the money but became suspicious and had turned away to leave when he was arrested, Dockery wrote.

Grady admitted sending the emails and said he came to the house because he was “curious,” Dockery wrote. He also admitted that he was a priest.

I know what you’re thinking: Hey, at least it’s a girl this time!

Anyways, I’m just throwing this out there, but I’m guessing by the time you are emailing 16 year old girls and asking for kisses and oral sex you have passed the stage of “curious”. I’m assuming this guy will be de-frocked, or whatever it is they do in the Catholic church, and he will not have the oppotunity to use his influence for this sort of evil.

so sickening. but dont worry- he wont be defrocked. he will get ‘counseling’ and then they will shuffle him off to another parish.

Wow, I was thinking, “Hey, at least it was a girl this time!”

I’m sure she was “very mature for her age.”

Oh good grief! just what do they teach in Catholic seminary these days?

Surely there are some topics that would be biblical, moral, righteous?

    one maybe?

    any at all?

Actually as one who attends a seminary where they train RC priests I can assure you that they do have to do ethics courses, but taking courses does not mean they will actually apply it to their lives.

The thing that gets me is that ministers in all denominations participate in shocking crap like this. There are a lot of factors that make this too easy, not the least of which is the denial most parishoners live in regarding the humanity of their clergy. Ultimately we own our choices, I’m not suggesting otherwise. But, it sure would be helpful if we could make sure that pastors were pastored too. I’ve heard RC priests talk about being lucky if they have even one family who can understand priests problems (part of this is the stupid tradition of celibacy, but I won’t go there). But if you treat a priest like they should be some holy person rather than a person complete with our common flawed humanity, then the ensuing isolation and loneliness is not going to be a helpful dynamic.
