When Dilettantes Rant!

February 25, 2010

In addition to my blog I also have a Youtube channel where I try and store or post many of the videos I use here on the blog. Currently, I’m around 550, 000 views. That’s right, over half a million people have viewed some of the cheesy classics you’ve seen here. Actually, it’s probably closer to a million as I have been threatened with lawsuits and had to take a few videos down.

Rick Pino did not like that I refereed to his rendition of “You Spin Me Right Round Jesus” as the Worst Worship Song Ever. Nor apparently did the legal department at his record label after they saw that over three-hundred thousand people witnessed the tragedy of his performance. Let’s just say words of affirmation were not spoken over me from them.

The Youtube channel is interesting. While I have more views here, generally, I get many more comments on my videos, and spread out over a much longer period of time. People don’t stop commenting on a video just because it was posted two years ago. However, there’s an even larger difference between my blog and Youtube channel: the sort of comments I get.

Now, like most of you in the biblioblog universe I have a fairly well read and educated readership here at Scotteriology. Comments are usually on-point and insightful. However, comments at my Youtube channel are not quite as, um, er, refined.

On a video titled “Paula White’s Heinous Preaching” user quitelywaiting wrote

MAY 21, 2011 – WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE
MAY 21, 2011 – THE RAPTURE
MAY 21, 2011 – JUDGMENT DAY
OCT, 21, 2011 – END OF WORLD

7 Billion – World Population (most will perish)
2 Billion – Christians (so called) – (most perish)
2 Hundred Million – Saved (Raptured) Rev 9

Left Behind – All members of Churches & local
Congregations who refused GODS command
come out of her my people Rev 17-18

05/21/11 to 10/21/11 – Judgment day – 153
Days (5 Months) of Hell on Earth – No Hope

Not really sure how to respond to that one… and here I thought the world was ending in 2012. Now I’m confused… and scared straight to repentance!

User noivad1 took great offence at a video titled “Creflo Dollar Brutalizes Matthew”

Creflo preaches about everything!!! too say this man only preaches about money is beyond foolish and a false statement..and giving and results is is mentioned all over the bible..i refuse to put up scriptures on them because if you no the word then you know this automatically..when somebody says tithe dosent make them a wolf in sheeps clothing get real..thats not a wolfs traits..a wolf will not acknowledge christ as the son nor teach his word like creflo does

If there was some sort of spirit-being that represented grammar and spelling then it died when that paragraph was written. If I had a nickel for every time someone used the “beyond foolish” argument on Youtube.

It’s too bad that I had to remove Rick Pino’s farce because the only thing sadder than that performance was the comments. I’ll give you one guess where most of them started… yep, David danced naked, therefore, this is good. Of course, this led to further nonsense and calls for me to “Repent!” and, I’m sure, several comments that indicated my critique of Pino was “beyond foolish.”

One day I posted a video “Crowder Mocking God.” If you have ever wondered about the intelligence level of the sort of person attracted to his ministry perhaps this “paragraph” will be a clue.

ppl has always gotten offended because of their mundane lvl of thinkn. someone said, prophesy is what shows them how god really thinks or says, that’s true, but I guarantee ya, watch them make it to heaven before most of ya talkn trash already. they preachn the word of God differently, just as Jesus did, cuz they actually pay attention to what’s in the bible than most. as most passes out in church in their borin sermons. ppl need to learn the bible, otherwise they wouldn’t b judgin eh.

Sorry to do that to you guys, but you just lost 5 IQ points from reading that.

Finally, I have several videos of my favorite late-night comedians Jack and Rexella. One video shows Jack ranting about the “2000 Timebomb”. I jokingly titled the video “Jack Van Impe: False Prophet.” Youtube user jOkerdude91 lovingly pointed out:

your an idiot cuz that wasnt a prophecy. he spoke on what he believed. had he said that God told him the that would be a prophecy. get your facts strait b4 you go judging ppl.
mathew 7:1 judge not that ye be not judged.
over and out lol

Thank God he put “lol” at the end or that would have stung!

Anyways, I’ve got to go and write a letter informing my school that I will no longer be writing my thesis. The world ends in just over a year, and I don’t want to waste that time in an office! Thanks quitelywaiting!

I’m glad to see the link to your youtube channel, but the bad thing is when you click on it you automatically kick of 9 minutes and 3 seconds of the “brand new bloom” prophetic song. It was bad enough the first time.

such persons as your commentators are the very reason i’m an unwavering fan of moderation. i think if you allow people to sin so outrageously as your commentators sin in demonstrating their pure ignorance, you are a partner to the depravity. silence them. that is the only fate they deserve.

I only moderate one kind of comment: an ad hominem attack on someone else. For instance, in the past I have had some inappropriate comments left here about other bibliobloggers; those get punted.

Except for my friend Jake. Any attacks on him get to stand.

But I actually get some sort of deranged pleasure out of the sick, ignorant, misguided, and downright stupid comments from some of these people. I figure if you’re blind enough to go public with your ignorance then I am going to let it stand so the rest of humanity can point their finger and laugh at you!

ok that’s a valid reason. if only the stupid would use their real names. that would make it real fun. but of course they won’t do that. pseudonyms, that’s what they love.

comments are curious. I just got a comment on an entry I wrote about Mark Driscoll’s Avatar rant from “Pantheist” who said it was an example of how the persecution and bigotry against pantheists and pandeists is proof that there must be something to it. Yes, NO ONE rents My Neighbor Totoro and Cameron couldn’t even make his movie or get it distributed. One of the most popular comments of any type is the “this is persecution that proves I’m right”. So there’s pantheist variations of “touch not the Lord’s annointed”, too, I guess. 🙂
