Book Lernin’ and Biblical Interpretation
Now, ironically, my first thought is that one must learn to read books before one can read the Bible, but I was also intrigued as to the random Bible verses at the end and their possible association with God hating book learning lernin.
Psalm 5: 5
The boastful will not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
So apparently this can stand as “foundational” for the sign’s point, but really, all it means is that God hates, not that he hates book lerners.
Ironically verse 6 continues
You destroy those who speak lies;
the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.
Hmmmm… I wonder how truthful this man has always been, or the deceitfulness of having this verse on his sign! Better duck.
The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked,
and his soul hates the lover of violence.
Hate evil, and love good,
and establish justice in the gate;
it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
I was going to continue deconstructing this poor soul’s exegesis, but after the first verse usage: really, what’s the point? Willfully ignorant, hate-mongering, dilettante, with a fundamentally incorrect idea about the Bible. A wonderful combination if ever there was one.
