Worst Superhero Ever

May 12, 2010

Anything you can do, we can do Worse!

Bibleman was a kid’s program that debuted in the 90s on TBN with world famous Charles in Charge actor Willie Ames, and I believe, there have been a few resurrections of the show with new actors ala Power Rangers.

There is much to be said about the “theology” behind these videos and the production value, but in the earliest incarnations of Bibleman only one thing needs to be said: somebody get him the Codpiece of Discretion to add to his armor! Fortunately, they rectified that problem and the production value in later videos; however, they were always stuck with the evangelical neo-gnostic theology.

Worst Superhero Ever:

Unless someone comes out with a superhero “Herpes-Man” or some such, I am officially putting Bibleman at the bottom of the heap.

And don’t even get me started on the villains in that world…

Around the early days of Bible Man I used to watch one show on TBN hosted by Brent Walters where he went through the Didache. The show was fun and the only thing on TBN that didn’t seem insane. Well, one fateful night Walters was on PTL talking with Paul Crouch and when Crouch said, “All I know is when Jesus comes and the Rapture happens we’ll be taken away from all this” Walters jumped into amillenialism, postmillenialism, and how the premilenial secret rapture teaching is a recent development. Crouch had this creepy-furious grin on his face that said silently, “Brent, your show is SO CANCELLED!” Sure enough, the show Walters was on moved from 3 PM to 3 AM and then a few months later was cancelled.
