The Trumpets of Awesomeness

June 30, 2010

Probably, most of you are familiar with the vuvuzelas that are being blown at the World Cup. At first they drove me to distraction; I could hardly stand to watch a match. In fact, I thought it was justice that South Africa didn’t make it through qualifying as just penance for unleashing the horror of the vuvuzela upon my psyche.

I couldn’t have been more wrong… the vuvuzela has been redeemed.

By YouTube nonetheless!

YouTube has added a football icon to the bottom right of their videos which appear on their site only. When you press the icon the wonderful drone of the vuvuzelas drown out whatever audio is playing on the video.

This is awesome and fun.

As I’m sure you guys and girls know I have posted a multitude of horrible videos here in the last couple of years, however, these terrible videos become a hoot with a vuvuzela button.

Seriously, try it…

John Crowder, “Oh, yoi, yoin, yoing” vuvuzela button!

Jack Van Impe, “In the light of everything we’ve said today” vuvuzela button!

Steven L. Anderson, “I’m gonna close with one thing” vuvuzela button!

Ahhh, too much fun. 🙂

Now if I could just get a vuvuzela button to carry around in real life with me…

The vuvuzela button was a brilliant move by YouTube to become a part of the much debated, hot-topic of the pseudo-instrument. I’ll be curious to see if anything like this happens again in the future! I know Google/YouTube has done different pranks and such on the site before (such as redirecting all of the featured videos to a rickroll, but integrating this into the player window of every video was pretty cool!

    Thanks for the post!

Why get a vuvuzela button when you could just carry an actutal vuvuzela around with you and, like the typical South African football fan, obnoxiously blow it for as long and loud as you feel like it for no reason other than to make noise. The next time you go out for dinner at a restaurant, don’t order any food but instead, simply blow the vuvzela for the entire meal in the middle of the dinning room without regard for anyone else in the room who might actually be there to eat.

In short, South Africa is stoopid.

    End rant.

World: “How would you like us to remember your hosting of the FIFA World Cup for all eternity?”

    World: “Alrighty then…”
