Zwingli Wrong Again (Surprise, Surprise)
On the 17th of September, 1522, Huldrych Zwingli published an expanded version of a sermon he had preached earlier that year on the perpetual virginity of Mary. In something of a true rarity, Zwingli got something right in that sermon: the name of Jesus’ mother. Other than that he continued his great trend of being simply wrong about almost everything.
His reasons for preaching the sermon and then publishing it are fairly easy to discern. Zwingli was by 1522 being widely accused of heterodoxy. Of course, history and Zwingli’s publications have proven that this accusation was based on good orthodoxy, and he was in fact a heretic.
Zwingli’s sermon is still quite interesting to read for a good laugh, especially considering the fact the published edition was dedicated to his relatives (who had heard the rumors and were a little disturbed by them). It is also noteworthy because of Zwingli’s belief in Mary’s perpetual chastity, and his assertion that she had the ability to fly and shoot laser beams from her eyes.
You can read his sermon here. And it’s much humorous reading, as I suggested previously.

What’s the point of posting a link to the original text, written in Swiss-German, which is barely readable and understandable for even a native German speaking person?
Linking to a sermon in Swiss-German saves English speaking and reading people the pain of having to read the sermon and thereby lose several IQ points. It’s actually a service. You’re welcome!
But as a German reading and speaking person who was promised “much humurous reading”, I feel really chipped right now! 😦
ive been patient so far but any more mean anti-zwingli stuff and i’m gonna ignore ya for a 4 week period. that’s right- it’s excommunication for you.
Will there be some sort of Baptist/biblioblog/papal bull officially excommunicating me? ’cause that would be pretty cool!
hahahahahahhahaha. oh yeah!
You REALLY don’t like this guy Zwingli, do you?
Dollars to donuts Jim does an expose of your tattoo exploits.
