Beliefnet, Advertisements, and Irony

October 7, 2010

Does anyone else find it ironic that the articles by conservative Christian authors on Beliefnet are accompanied by these sort of pictures and advertisements?

When Scot McKnight was still over there with his Jesus Creed blog I was greeted with an advertisement for the show Hung. Now that’s irony.

I wonder what Witherington would think if he knew that I have seen this ad so many times in my feed reader attached to his articles, that if you hooked up a computer to my brain and spoke the words “Ben Witherington,” ‘upwards dog’ and this lady’s cleavage would pop into my brain.

We all know what Mark Driscoll would say, “Yoga was created by demons. The internet was created by demons. So obviously Beliefnet was created by demons to distract you from God and get you to hell!”

Oh, well, we can guess that Driscoll would say the internet is okay in principle because you can listen to his podcasts and other valuable teaching material from him and his friends, like the video interview he did with R. C. Sproul where the two commiserated about N. T. Wright and the New Perspective destroying the Gospel by denying double imputation.

Teensy nitpick, but that lady is not doing Up Dog she is doing Cobra – her legs and hips are flat on the mat. The more you know!

Yeah, I know nothing about yoga but that looks like a cobra stretch I learned borrowing some books from my brother-in-law. He was doing conditioning for the Guard a few years back and lent me some stuff. But either way the cobra stretch is the stretch of the serpent and the serpent is the Devil so even if it’s not a yoga move it’s a devil move! 😉
