Saddleback’s Newest Worship Artist

October 9, 2010

Yesterday we met Saddleback Church’s newest worship artist. Surprisingly, that person was Miley Cyrus. They have been performing The Climb for worship, a song with no connection to Christ, faith, or worship, and the loosest connection to music.

Saddleback’s Miley is in the news today for her latest video Who Owns My Heart? Anyone with any familiarity of the crap machine out of Nashville called Contemporary Christian Music–which ironically fails on all three of those descriptions–could write a Christianese song in five minutes with that title. Have at ‘er in the comments if you feel so inclined.

Miley’s new song begins, “Creation shows me what to do…” Praise the Lord we have a new song from a secular artist about creation! Then again maybe not:

If you hate yourself today then listen to the entirety of this song:

As the father of a teenage girl there’s some pretty easy targets in this video of a seventeen year old girl (and whether she likes it or not, with her publicity she is a role model) portraying herself this way. I’ll let that go. I trust those that visit this site have the mental capacity and ethical reasoning for such sentiments to be obvious.

However, I will point out one time before hopefully never mentioning Miley Cyrus ever again in the history of my blog: perhaps, “performing” her songs as “worship” might be a small adventure in missing the point.

Or large.

You decide.

Is this Miley Cyrus as in the periodic “HANNAH MONTANA IS A HO!” on local morning drive-time radio?

And Saddleback’s on one of my alternate routes home from work. From Santiago Canyon Road, it looks like a Wal-Mart-sized Big Box store on its dedicated parking lot, with a dedicated four-lane “driveway” on a freeway-style bridge across usually-dry Santiago Creek. Wouldn’t know it was a church if you didn’t see the sign.

You’ve got to be kidding me, a Christian church thinks the “The Climb” is a worship song? You’re right it has nothing to do with God or worship, if anything it’s all about me-worship and doing things on your own without God’s help.

It really makes me sad to think Miley is teaching her young fans that to be grown up means to dress like a hooker and act promiscuous. At least this is the message I’m getting from her. She IS a role model whether she likes it or not, she can’t go around acting all trampy and think her fans are not going to want to emulate her.

I’m so sick of secular music and their videos they have nothing of substance to offer.

Don’t be sad. Miley isn’t teaching anyone anything… on purpose anyway. She’s making money.

PS: You’re not a hooker unless you got paid… and a girl has to eat.

Given how annoying “Achy Breaky heart” was and reports of lineage the apple has, perhaps, not fallen too far from the tree in musical annoyance.

first, in spite of myself, I find it catchy and I can dance to it.

second, if i went to church, it would have to be one where they played gay club music and i could be surrounded by hot girls with butch haircuts. i’m so jealous right now!

third… i wonder if using this song is saddleback church’s way of endorsing lesbianism?

    if so, ROCK ON!
