How New Age Philosophy Works

May 29, 2011

Via Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal:

There is also another ignorant anthem for “New Thought” argumentation: “I believe it”.

Actual conversation I have had:

Her: I believe we all have the divine inside of us:

Me: Why? What makes you think that we have the divine inside of us? Is there any evidence of the divine in us?

Her: It’s the creative spark that makes us all unique children of God

Me: Actually, the creative spark can be very reasonably explained through demonstrable scientific processes… So we are children of God but we have the divine inside of us? Do you have any evidence for this position, or a good argument to show me how this might be possible?

Her: It’s just what I believe…

Me: So if I believe in fairies that makes them true?

Her: I don’t know. it’s just what I believe.

Yes. Well argued. If you ‘believe’ it, it must be true.

    Asking for evidence is mean.
