Will Science Ever “Catch-Up” To the Bible?

September 12, 2011

Pseudo-historian, anti-intellectual, ideologue, bigot, and extreme liar for Jesus David Barton “has been known to promote ‘ex-gay’ reparative therapy and has argued that gay rights are “impossible.” Despite Barton’s contention, the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Association of Social Workers and the American Psychiatric Association all deny the efficacy, safety and science of reparative therapy.”

Who wants to bet that if pressed Barton has actually read almost none off the actual literature from real psychologists?

Here’s an example of Science trying to “Catch-up” with the Bible:

The notion that modern science needs to catch up with the ignorance of pre-scientific persons is itself incredibly  ignorant or outright lying. Take your choice.

What’s next? Will science catch-up with the Bible and prove the cosmology of the Bible? Will it ‘find’ the firmament? Will it ‘discover’ a three-tiered universe? Will it ‘prove’ that demons cause epilepsy?

“God has never, ever, created anybody, to be something he has already condemned.”

Well, their moral understanding is more advanced than that of the Calvinists, at least.

I think they must be referring to the Spitzer study, which was based on self-report data about sexual attraction and behavior from a self-selected sample of the population. The people in the sample had all received some form of ‘reparative therapy,’ and voluntarily participated in the study. The author did acknowledge the non-representative nature of the sample, and the possibility that the self-reports were not credible, though he believes they were. The study concluded that change in sexual orientation or some features of it is possible for some homosexual people following ‘reparative therapy.’

Personally, I’m disinclined to lend much credibility to a study that only uses self-report data from a biased sample of the population (especially when the people in the sample have an interest in a particular outcome). But even if we accept its conclusion, it does not come close to validating the statements in the video.

Anyway, the title of the paper is Can Some Gay Men and Lesbians Change Their Sexual
Orientation? 200 Participants Reporting a Change from Homosexual to Heterosexual Orientation
if you want to have a look.

I am a christian. I have serious issues with the anti-gay movement in that it has a striking similarity with Jim Crow. The Bible doesn’t give a believer any right to condemn or disparage or segregate any person from society. Nor are we given the right to make laws that make behaviors that are not illegal, illegal. Homosexuality is never, as iv’e seen it, condemned as criminal in the Bible. One of the other prob;ems is that this movement has the airs of hatred.
I thought Yeshua commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves. I see no love.
