Harold Camping: Apocalypse Now?

October 21, 2011

Harold Camping and Family Radio received a lot of media attention in the weeks leading up to their failed Rapture prediction of May 21st, and of course no small amount of derision at this site for his tendentious and ridiculous interpretation of some biblical passages.

However, Camping asserted that his May 21st prediction did not fail

What really happened this past May 21st ? What really happened is that God accomplished exactly what He wanted to happen. That was to warn the whole world that on May 21 God’s salvation program would be finished on that day. For the next five months, except for the elect (the true believers), the whole world is under God’s final judgment. To accomplish this goal God withheld from the true believers the way in which two phrases were to be understood. Had He not done so, the world would never have been shaken in fear as it was.

In a nutshell, May 21st was a ‘spiritual rapture’ and “All of mankind was shaken with fear. Indeed the earth (or mankind) did quake in a way it had never before been shaken.”

From this completely sane conclusion Camping has been asserting that the end of the earth will actually happen today, October 21st.

Thus we can be sure that the whole world, with the exception of those who are presently saved (the elect), are under the judgment of God, and will be annihilated together with the whole physical world on October 21, 2011, on the last day of the present five months period. On that day the true believers (the elect) will be raptured. We must remember that only God knows who His elect are that He saved prior to May 21.

Of course Camping will be wrong again, but he never had a chance to be right considering how faulty his categories are for interpreting the Bible. The only entertainment left–and it will be sad to see this deluded, tired, old man try to spin this in some manner tomorrow when we are all still here–is his explanation and hopeful conclusion to his ‘ministry’ Family Radio which has bilked entire families out of all of their earnings and resources, which is beyond sad.

If I had a zillion dollars, I would have flown Rick Astley out to perform ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ in front of Camping’s organization today, dressed as God.

    Somebody should have done that.

I heard somebody suggest a Zombie Walk in front of Camping’s HQ.

Though Camping is probably back to the Bible Codebooks and Numerology Calculations — “I KNOW I’ve Got It Right This Time!”
