It’s the Shakers without the mandatory celibacy!
“Shake Shake Shake
Shake Me Daniel
Shake Out of Me
All Things Carnal…”
— Shaker Hymn
At .20, the woman loses her wig. At 1.06, a man falls over another. Some sexually suggestive moves at 1:15.
Sorry, but I had to laugh. A lot.
In a more serious vein, this is typical self-induced euphoria caused by shaking the body, upsetting the internal equilibrium, creating all sorts of odd physical and mental feelings, and claiming it’s divine intervention. You see it in Haitian folk religion, the whirling dervishes in Sufi, and a host of other belief systems such as the Shakers as pointed out by HUG.
Fortunately, the video in question does not represent Christianity as a whole and I look at it more with an eye of a rank amateur sociologist and it is not nor ever will be a danger to society or Christianity as a whole.
By the bye, if I may, in light of Dr. David Tee, I would like to change my signature:
—
The Right Reverend Holy Doctor Craig Loewen, PhD, MPA, MBA, BS, BA, and winner of a “I Stayed Dry For A Whole Month” plaque from Mrs. Wiener’s Nursery School.
LOL… in light of “Dr.” Tee I want to go with:
The Dr.’s Dr., Scott Bailey, PhD biology, PhD astronomy, PhD chemistry, PhD geology, PhD history, PhD biblical studies, PhD aeronautical engineering, PhD in every subject at every university offered ever.
