Ham vs Nye: A Lesson From History

January 14, 2014

On February 4th Bill Nye will debate Ken Ham on creationism as a viable model for origins. Personally, I believe this is a mistake. Ham and his cronies have such an impossibly long record of ignoring and misrepresenting facts and science, I’m not sure what good presenting viable science and facts to such persons will do.

Ideological religious motivated reasoning rejects viable science and facts.

This video is an awesome example–of many–of how Christian motivated “reasoning” works regardless of facts, and, very likely, demonstrates how all of humanity–including Christians–will look back on Ken Ham (if they even remember him) the same way as they do “Dr. Parallax”.

tldr: Presenting facts and reasons to belligerently ignorant people doesn’t work.

I’m glad Bill is doing this. He has credibility with a lot of people that guys like Dawkins (for example) doesn’t. If he is able to plant some seeds of doubt in even a fee minds, it’s worth it.

Who cares if Ham isn’t convinced? He never will be.

I’m glad Bill is doing this. Who cares if Ham isn’t persuaded? He never will be. Bill has a level if credibility that few others have. I think he has a chance to educate people here, and for that, I am happy.
