Um….perhaps he had seen the superb film Total Eclipse, starring Leo DiCaprio as Rimbaud and David Thewlis as Verlaine. There is a scene in which Verlaine is examined naked by authorities and he is proclaimed to be “both an active and passive homosexual.”
But seriously, there are lots of people who think that all gay men practice anal sex. I’m sure there are many who would be convinced that if a man’s sphincter was virginally tight, that man couldn’t be gay.
