When Jim West Preaches…

I was sent this video this morning from a lay person at Petros Baptist Church. Apparently, after being subjected to one of Pastor West’s ‘sermons’ the youth are so overcome with lamentations and regret for allowing themselves to sit through forty-five minutes of their life that they will never get back they almost always respond like this.
I’m also told some of the older congregants can be found face down at the altar weeping and gnashing their teeth and through their tears be heard wailing, “Why God? Why?!?”

Why do people put stuff like that on the web? Jim, you should have a talk with your people. I get that they are dissatisfied with your preaching – but seriously, without the context of the sermon they are bemoaning we cannot be expected to understand their pain. I think you should increase the lengths of your sermons for the rest of this year so that they learn their lesson.

It sounded like three syllables all resembling “eh” or “leh” repeated over and over. Not the more typical “scat-singing in Hebrew”.
A lot of times, I think “speaking in tongues” is just a side effect of being worked into an emotional frenzy — “wind ’em up and let ’em go.” Like “Shaking Stacy” of Lakeland fame. (I still miss that music video of her set to “Shake it Up” by The Cars…)
Admit it, Scott, you really want to wail right along with them!
Again (same thing as discussed in my comment at https://scotteriology.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/teenager-gets-the-holy-ghost-andor-molested/#comment-7707) this is simply emotionalism – the girls have been manipulated (maybe even hypnotised) by the preaching and probably a load of repetitive music. Are you sure it’s a baptist church?
